Updating firmware on wrt54g
Look on the back or bottom for a label that will look similar to this: You can then visit the manufacturer’s website and download the latest firmware for your router model and version. You login by typing the URL of the router into your web browser. You will need to enter your router’s username and password. If you never supplied a username and password, check the manufacturer’s website for default passwords that might work." at which point I go "LAUNCH ALL ZIG" and I hope for great justice... I've found safari on my Mac to be problematic when flashing firmwares on WRT54G's Works fine with Firefox on a Mac and Firefox on other platforms My router doesn't have a version number after the model which Linksys claims means it is version 1.I also tried the and I get "Code Pattern Incorrect" which indicates this is the wrong type of firmware to be uploading? The firmware says it supports versions 1 through 3, so it should be good there. Not sure what the deal is.---Maybe I should just run DD-WRT on it and forget the Linksys firmware? I've been running it for years without issue on my WRT54G.Makes that function a whole lot easier to work with than the v1.30 firmware. Other than this issue, I have no complaints with my v1.0 router whatsoever. ez The v1.1 seems to be just an exercise in rebranding and cost cutting nothing more.
Yeah, I contacted Linksys too and they rep pretty much told me that there is no difference between the two and that they perform the same. As the poster above mentioned, there is a technical difference in terms of the way the 1.1 was manufactured but it doesn't affect the performance of either one.It is very important to make sure you keep up to date with these upgrades–especially if there is a problem that could affect the security of your LAN. The router’s manufacturer with either ask you to visit their website and download the firmware onto your computer the router will go out on the Internet itself and get the upgrade. Some routers will even have an option to automatically check and upgrade its firmware on a scheduled basis. She did tell me not to upgrade to 1.41.2 if I'm using the 1.0 version. Also, I think because Cisco acquired Linksys they want to make sure that the Cisco logo appears on every Linksys product and so redesigned the GUI router control panel just for brand awareness. She did say that they will be releasing a version like 1.41.2 for version 1.0 soon. I'm sure they will release a firmware within a month or so.
